Organic

Each year the borough provides a fortnightly collection for green garden waste between April and December to 61,000 households. Residents are given two reusable sacks and can purchase additional sacks for a charge of £1 each from council offices. From June 2008 the Council will be offering a year round service for garden waste using reusable jute sacks. This will be a chargeable service at £35 per year Residents must leave open sacks at the edge of their property by 7am on collection days. The sack is emptied and returned to its point of collection, with no restriction on the number of sacks that residents can put out. Residents may place grass cuttings, small twigs/woody waste, hedge trimmings, dead plants/weeds, garden prunings, branches no larger than 20cms and leaves in their sacks.

Food waste is collected weekly from 3,000 households in the borough.  Residents collect their food waste including meat in a small caddy, which is collected by a specialist vehicle.
