 Kerbside Recycling

Dry Recycling

Enfield currently runs a weekly kerbside collection to 104,000 households of:

  • aerosols
  • cans
  • cardboard
  • glass bottles and jars
  • paper
  • plastic bottles
  • yellow pages

Residents are issued with a 50 litre black box for the collection of materials, which should be left at the boundary of their property by 7 am on their collection day. The materials are collected co-mingled (mixed together) on the same day as the organic material using a split back vehicle (70% recycling and 30% organics).

Organic

Enfield Council provides a weekly green garden and uncooked fruit and vegetable waste collection service to 104,000 households.  Residents are issued with a 25 litre green box For the collection of mixed food waste and garden waste. The green box should be left at the boundary of their property on the same day as their black box.

Dry Recycling

A bring collection for dry recycling serves 17,075 households on 216 estates.  Materials are collected co-mingled in 1280 litre wheeled bins.  Materials accepted for recycling are:

  • aerosols
  • cardboard
  • glass bottles and jars
  • mixed cans
  • paper
  • plastic bottles
  • yellow pages

 Waste Minimisation

Home Composting

Enfield Council is working in partnership with the national Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and Garden Organic to supply discounted compost bins to residents with gardens. Bins are also supplied to schools to introduce children and their parents to home composting.  Composters cost £17 (220L compost converter), £20 (330 litre compost converter), £40 (KOMP 250L) and £4 (kitchen caddy).  Enfield residents may order bins by calling 0845 077 0757 or online at www.recyclenow.com/compost.  Ordering on-line entitles residents to a further £1 off.  Over 20,000 composters have been sold to date.

The London Borough of Enfield is working in partnership with WRAP and Garden Organic to recruit a network of volunteer Master Composters. The Master Composters provide free and friendly advice to any residents interested in learning more about home composting.

Junk Mail Reduction

Enfield promotes the Mail Preference Service, which residents can sign up to by visiting www.mpsonline.org.uk.

Waste Exchange

The Council supports Give or Take days throughout the year where residents can bring along unwanted items and take other items brought along.

Scrap Store

Art Start is a community project set up, in conjunction with Enfield Council which encourages the reusing of unwanted materials in art projects for children across Enfield Schools.

 Other Services

Bulky Waste

The Council provides a free collection of bulky household waste such as fridges, freezers and furniture.  Alternatively, items can be taken to Barrowell Green Recycling Centre.

Enfield Council is also currently working with the ReStore charity to collect unwanted furniture (in good condition) for reuse. 

Litter

The Council has been using specialised crews to collect street leaves every autumn since 2001. They also work in partnership with Enfield Landscape Maintenance Service to co-ordinate collection of leaves from parks and open land. All leaves collected are made into compost.

Residual Waste

Residual househols waste is collected weekly from the kerbside using refuse sacks.
