Dry Recycling
The London Borough of Bromley has a fortnightly compulsory kerbside recycling collection covering 122,698 eligible properties. Residents are given a green box for the collection of:
- aerosols
- aluminium foil
- glass bottles and jars
- mixed cans
- plastic bottles
And a black box for:
- cardboard
- paper
- paperback books
- yellow pages
The materials are collected in a Refuse Collection Vehicle (RCV) on the same day as normal refuse collections.
Organic
Bromley has a borough-wide kerbside green waste collection scheme, available to all 133,298 properties. Collections are fortnightly but need to be booked in advance by calling free phone 0800 389 3804 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm). Residents also need to purchase stickers at £1 each to label their green waste bags.
Bromley Council is currently undertaking a weekly food and green garden waste collection trial for 5,000 properties with an aim to collect borough-wide in the future. Meat is included in the collection.
Food waste is collected in a split-bodied RCV.

The estates recycling scheme now covers 10,600 flats on 1,450 estates. Residents are issued with reusable polypropylene recycling bags to store and take materials to mini recycling centres in. These consist of a set of wheeled bins, located near to the entrances of the flats. Residents can recycle:
- cardboard
- glass bottles and jars
- mixed cans
- paper
- yellow pages

Bring Sites
There are 47 public bring sites in Bromley, collecting the following materials separately in crane-emptied modules:

- books
- cardboard
- drinks cartons (at 3 sites only)
- glass bottles and jars
- mixed cans
- paper
- plastic bottles (at 6 sites only)
- shoes
- textiles
Not all materials are accepted at all sites.

Home Composting
Bromley is working in partnership with the Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP) to provide subsidised home composters to residents. To date 30,000 compost bins have been sold.
Nappy Waste
Bromley has a £30 reward scheme for residents in the form of vouchers if parents/carers can demonstrate that they have bought real nappies instead of disposables, or if they are using a local laundry nappy washing service.
Mailing Preference Service
Bromley promotes the Mailing Preference Service, residents can sign up at www.mpsonline.org.uk to reduce the amount of junk mail sent to them.
Waste Exchange

Cloth shopping bags are distributed to residents.

Bulky Waste
White goods and furniture can be taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre or collected under the bulky waste collection for a minimum cost of £25. The council also provides a list of charities that collect white goods for reuse. See the link at the end of this page for the Councils website.
Litter
Mini recycling banks have been installed in convenient town centre locations in Bromley and Beckenham for use by shoppers and commuters. The mini banks provide facilities for recycling plastic, cans and paper. Each bank also contains a general waste bin and a built in ashtray.
Recyclable material is separated from street cleansing litter at the Waldo Road Transfer Station.
Dedicated vehicles collect leaf fall, which is taken to Waldo Road to be mixed in with other compostable materials.
Schools Recycling
Paper banks are located at 102 schools in Bromley.
Residual Waste
Residual household waste is collected weekly from the kerbside using refuse bags.
Commercial Waste and Recycling
Bromley offers a commercial waste collection service to all businesses. Collections are available on request and subject to a charge depending on the size and frequency of collections. Commercial waste may also be taken to the Waldo Road recycle and reuse centre for recycling.
