Inventory of Waste Facilities in London
This file contains an inventory of waste management facilities, compiled in April 2003 for the Technical Assessment for Waste Management in London.

The Kerbside Analysis Tool
The Kerbside Analysis Tool (KAT) is in the format of an easy-to-use spreadsheet, which allows users to make projections of kerbside collection infrastructure and associated standardised costs.

Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme: LATS Mass-Balance Estimator Allowance Manager: M-BEAM
In order to assist local authorities develop and cost their strategies for using the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme (LATS), Defra has developed an electronic planning tool, in consultation with the Environment Agency; the Local Government Association; and the LATS Stakeholder Forum . This tool, known as the Mass-Balance Estimator and Allowance Manager - M-BEAM, will enable authorities to plan the most effective way of using LATS to suit their particular circumstances.

PERFORM
PERFORM is an accessible model, designed to assess current and future waste flows and recycling/ composting performance against relevant targets, by using simple and available waste management information.

WEEE Flows in London
The WEEE flows model estimates WEEE tonnages for each London Borough based on data from the E-scope study (Coopers & Mayers, 1998-99) and an Axion School Survey in the London Borough of Ealing (2006). The model provides an estimation of household ownership, current disposal route, age at disposal and also details a breakdown of materials from common household WEEE such as fridges and washing machines. The model enables local authorities to have a better understanding of the amount of WEEE which could be potentially generated and disposed of at reuse and recycling centres in their area.

COMING SOON
Strategic waste modeling for London
To maintain the development of sustainable regional waste management strategies, an understanding of current strategies, the future waste management scenarios, and the available options at the local level are very important. In this project, a decision support model is developed for the strategic assessment of future waste management options across the London Boroughs.
The results from the study yield a strategic understanding of the following:

  • Future volumes of waste, cost of waste management, and the appropriate time to invest in new technologies.
  • Regional impact of borough level waste management options.
  • Sustainable options for future waste management.
