What is the highest performer doing?
The City of London tops the dry recycling league table and collects 215 kilograms per household per year of dry materials from its residents (download a summary table of kg/hh/yr for all the London boroughs below). The City of London provides at least a twice weekly collection of dry comingled recycling collections to its residents living in the four estates in its area and daily collections to the residents living in flats above shops and in kerbside properties. Residents are provided with a single use sack which they can use to recycle aerosols, books, cardboard, food and drink cartons, glass bottles and jars, mixed cans, paper, plastic bottles and yellow pages.
The City of London is the second least deprived authority in London, covers the smallest area and has the lowest number of households than any other borough. Of these households, 90% are flatted properties.
Over recent years the City has significantly improved its recycling performance from being one of the lowest performing authorities in London to the highest performing when considering dry recycling only and sixth highest performing authority when considering dry recycling and composting.
